Self-guided trips, seriously well fed

Eat like the trip deserves it.

You've paid for the float plane. You've earned the portage. Freeze Dried Expeditions makes sure dinner at camp is the best part of the day: near-gourmet meals, packed one complete meal to a bag, shipped to your put-in.

Our mission

Wild places, without the peanut-butter-and-crackers diet

Wilderness is getting harder to reach and more expensive to get to. Guided outfitters solve the food problem with a camp chef, but you pay for the overhead. Go self-guided and food usually becomes the compromise: too much weight at the float-plane scale, or ramen three times a day by day six.

We think self-guided paddlers and hikers deserve better. Freeze Dried Expeditions designs, cooks, dries and packs every meal of your trip so it's nutritionally balanced, spiced the way you like it, and simple enough that whoever is camp chef that night just adds water, watches the fire, and serves.

  • Balanced fuel for long, hard days on the water or trail
  • Vegan, vegetarian, fish and meat menus, mixed in one crew if needed
  • Packed light and tight, ready for the barrel

What we bring

Three things that make a trip run smoother

Near-gourmet meals

Real recipes, cooked properly and freeze-dried at their best. Rehydrate on the stove or the fire with clear, step-by-step cards.

One bag, one meal

Each named bag holds a complete meal for the whole crew, salt and sriracha included. No more digging to the bottom of the barrel.

Maps worth keeping

Annotated, waterproofed route books with campsites, hot springs, old cabins and fur-trade history marked. Beautiful to use and to archive.

How it works

Six answers, and we handle the rest

Tell us about the trip. We build the menu, balance it, weigh it, pack it and ship it to where you start.

  1. Where you're goingRoute, region and put-in, so we can ship to the right place.
  2. How many of youCrew size and appetite. Big portage days burn big calories.
  3. Dietary needsAllergies, vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, all in one crew if needed.
  4. How longYour dates set the number of breakfasts, lunches and dinners.
  5. Choose your mealsPick favourites from the library or let us plan the menu.
  6. Choose your snacksTrail mix, jerky, bars, chocolate. The things that get you up the hill.
“Night four, a fire on the rock, and the whole crew went quiet because the food was that good. We'd never eaten like that on a trip.” Sample testimonial: Marie L., 9-day canoe trip

What paddlers are saying

★★★★★

We weighed in for the float plane right on target. First time ever we weren't paying overweight or rationing by day five.

Two vegans, one celiac and two people who'd eat anything. Every bag just worked. Nobody cooked a separate dinner.

★★★★★

The map book found us a hot spring we'd paddled past twice on earlier trips. That alone was worth it.

Spend the trip on the trip

Concentrate on the paddling, the fishing and the sunsets. We'll take care of what's for dinner.
